Investing in our future
The Social Inclusion team delivers a wide range of youth inclusion projects that enable young people to participate in a diverse collection of sport and educational activities within disadvantaged communities across Sydney.
We are constantly addressing and adapting to the needs of our young people, allowing them to participate in activities they have requested on their doorstep. We support them to forge a program to suit their needs and abilities whilst working closely with youth centres, local councils and other community organisations.
Working with Young People
We provide community services and activities in five core areas for young people aged 5 – 24 years from disadvantaged communities:
- Sports and Recreation – Sports Coaching, Schools Coaching and Volunteer Programs
- Education and Career Development – Coach Education; Workshops; seminars; leadership courses; and coaching qualifications.
- The Arts and Cultural Enrichment – Dance; Photography and Graffiti Programs
- Music and Film – Videos, Music, DJ and Short Stories
- Health, Wellbeing and Life Skills – Workshops, seminars and courses in cooking, diet and nutrition; family support, teenage pregnancy and housing services.
There are four key ‘Working with Young People’ Programs that help deliver these five core areas:
- Safer Neighbourhood – Social Inclusion Project - To reduce crime and anti-social behaviour
- Street Wise – Through Street Football - Outreach project supporting young offenders, substance misuse and homeless.
- Inside Out – Positive Impact for Positive Futures – Youth and Children Projects
- Catch 22 – Specialist Programs combining core areas.
Inclusive and Inspirational
Many people do not have the same start in life. For many children, young people and adults with a disability, sport can be a great way of creating bridges between themselves and the rest of society. At Active Opportunities Inc. we aim to provide sports opportunities to those with additional support needs and people with a disability.
Our participants are involved in three main projects:
- Ability Counts: Saturday Disability Sports Club – For children with an intellectual disability to experience fun, safe, professional and caring organised sports activities.
- Day Care Program: Working with disability services to deliver a range of sports activities in house and at community centres/ovals.
- Schools Support: Delivering a variety of sports programs within schools and after school.
